The Reiss Collection

The artist, Jeroen Krabbe, is an accomplished actor, director, and artist. His source of inspiration for his collection is his grandfather, Abraham Reiss, who was killed by the Nazis during World War II. With each piece of art, the artist strives to honor the memory of his beloved grandfather. The resulting collection is one of depth and emotion, connecting grandson to grandfather and inviting the world along on the journey.

The Demise of Abraham Reiss is a collection of nine paintings which were conceived of and executed by his grandson, Jeroen Krabbe, a prominent Dutch actor and artist. Throughout this collection of paintings, the story of Krabbe’s grandfather is told emotionally, and with more than a touch of tragedy.

Krabbe was born in 1944, a year after his grandfather’s death. Growing up, he heard stories of the life of Abraham Reiss, including how he was a successful diamond trader in the 1920s and how he lost much of his fortune in the economic collapse of 1929. And how he was immediately targeted when the Nazis seized The Netherlands.
